Begin engaging with the city's spiritual history at the oldest temple in town—Wat Si Saket. It now doubles as a national museum, housing almost 7,000 images of Buddha. Nearby is Haw Phra Kaew, a temple that was once home to the eminent Emerald Buddha. Today, it exhibits a fine collection of Khmer and Lao art. Then at That Luang, see the most important religious site in the country and a reported burial place of bones from Buddha himself.

Afterward, arrive at Patuxai, an important Korean monument honoring those who fought for independence from France. Here, snap a few pictures and enjoy far-reaching city views. From there, take a stroll through the city's marketplace, absorbing the lively atmosphere and taking in the sounds and smells swirling around you.

Finish your tour at Buddha Park, a fascinating area with unique Buddhist and Hindu sculptures. Marvel at their size and shape before heading back to your hotel.
