Complete Tour du Mont Blanc (Huts)
Self guided walk following the Classic Tour du Mont Blanc through France, Italy and Switzerland
The Complete Tour du Mont Blanc starts and finishes in Les Houches and covers every step of this classic Alpine trek through France, Italy and Switzerland. For the serious walker with a sense of aesthetic there really is no other option for the Tour du Mont Blanc.
The Tour du Mont Blanc is so varied that it is a joy to walk through the French, Italian and Swiss sides of the Mont Blanc Massif. High passes, narrow contouring mountain paths and gentle valley walking hide surprises around every corner.
The Complete Tour du Mont Blanc includes every stage of the Tour du Mont Blanc. It begins with a steep climb from Les Houches, which immediately immerses you in the glaciers and rugged spires of Mont Blanc. You then follow the trail over Col de la Croix du Bonhomme and Col de la Seigne where you pass into Italy. The Col Chécrouit is the next highlight of the tour as continue through Italy via Cournayeur and Refugio Bonatti.
The ascent of Grand Col Ferret takes you into Switzerland and is followed by an easier day through the Swiss pastures to Champex. The next day’s walk to Trient via Alp Bovine gives sensational views of the Rhone Valley or you can choose the challenging variant via Fenetre d’ Arpette, a highlight of the Tour du Mont Blanc. You then head into the Aiguilles Rouges Nature Reserve to Lac Blanc, which perfectly frames Mont Blanc and is the perfect last night high in the mountains. The trail delivers a final flourish as it climbs to Le Brévent before descending back to Les Houches and your final overnight is in Chamonix.
The Complete Tour du Mont Blanc is ideal if you want to complete the entire Tour de Mont Blanc, an experience filled with superlatives, which should be on any walkers “must do” list of treks. Although not for everyone, staying in mountain huts allows you to stay high in the mountains and enjoy the camaraderie of fellow TMB’ers, which is just one aspect of the trek which makes the Tour du Mont Blanc so special. If you would prefer more privacy then our Complete Tour du Mont Blanc in Comfort would be a better option.
We wouldn't recommend walking the Tour du Mont Blanc in less than 10 walking days but if you would like a less strenuous itinerary with shorter walking days and perhaps a few rest days we would be happy to tailor make an itinerary to suit you. Our team have walked the TMB numerous times and would love to put together your perfect Tour du Mont Blanc trek.
Accommodation is in 3* hotels on the first and last nights of your trek and mountain huts, refuges and gîtes in dormitories on the other nights is included in our Complete Tour du Mont Blanc huts package. If you would like to add a couple more hotels/private rooms into the mix just let us know and we can put a tailor made quote together for you. Breakfast is included every morning as are 10 dinners featuring hearty local specialities. Detailed maps, with your route marked, a comprehensive guidebook, our own personalised route cards, which are checked annually and emergency support from our representative based in Les Houches are also all included.
